PRE-RACE QUESTIONS

 

Where can I enter the Event? 

When is the entry deadline? / When do entries close?

  • Entries close at midnight on 1 November 2023. 

Is there an age limit for entering the Event? 

  • All runners must be 18 years or older to enter the EX 23km and 20 years or older to enter any of our other Events.

Do I have to submit a medical certificate to participate in the Event?

  • We don't require a formal medical certificate; please read the indemnity and waiver carefully. 

Is a payment plan available for entry fees? 

  • Yes, we have a three-month payment option. Call Quicket (021-424 9308) to sign up for the payment plan option, and they will direct you further.  

When will the Entry Start List be available for the 2023 Event?

  • The list of entrants will be made available once entries have closed. 

TRAVEL QUESTIONS

Do you have a travel partner for RMB Ultra-trail Cape Town®? 

  • Yes, our travel partner for the Event is Runcation. Find out more information on their website.

 

How do I get to my hotel from the airport? 

  • We recommend that you catch an Uber from the airport to your hotel.

What are my transport options to get around in Cape Town?

  • Cape Town is one of the most well-connected cities in South Africa regarding transport options. Travellers can safely use Uber, Taxify, and the MyCiti bus system.

  • There is NO parking at the venue.  UTCT has arranged a Park and Ride Service in conjunction with MyCiti Bus from Cape Town High School (Hatfield Street, Gardens) to the Start/Finish Venue, available from Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 November. This service will be the quickest and simplest way to get to the venue, as well as to Llandudno if you are doing the PT55km or to Alphen Trail if you are doing the EX23km. Alternatively, you can make use of Uber. View bus schedule here.

How far is the race village the airport?

Can I get a South African SIM card if I don’t want to use international roaming? 

How do I get a South African SIM card? 

  • If you use this option, please check that you are using an unlocked mobile phone compatible with GSM networks. As a foreign visitor to South Africa, you may need the following to register your new SIM card starter pack.

    • Passport

    • Accommodation booking confirmation or proof of accommodation whilst visiting the country

What are the weather conditions in Cape Town in November?

  • Cape Town has a warm sunny climate. Historically, the average temperatures range from 14°C to 23°C, with an average humidity of 69%. Cape Town typically has four seasons in a day over Race Week, so bring some warm clothes as nights can be cold and the wind, our dear friend, is unpredictable. You can expect to have about 14 hours of daylight and roughly five rainy days throughout the month.

Can I drink the tap water? 

  • Although high-quality tap (faucet) water is available across the city, which is both palatable and safe to drink, we recommend buying bottled water to avoid any stomach issues during your visit to Cape Town.

COMPULSORY GEAR QUESTIONS

 

What are the compulsory gear requirements for the Event?

  • The compulsory gear list is available under runner information in our website's rules and compulsory gear section. Please Note: ALL items listed must be carried by the runner for the duration of the Event.

Is it essential to have a waterproof jacket?

  • Every participant MUST carry a waterproof jacket, with sealed seams or 100% waterproof, for the duration of the Event. PLEASE NOTE: A windbreaker IS NOT considered to be waterproof, and you will not be allowed to take part unless you have a waterproof jacket. Contact the Race Office before Race Registration if you are unsure of this.

Is there a compulsory gear check before the Event? 

  • Gear Check takes place at Race Registration and is compulsory for every participant to attend.

REGISTRATION QUESTIONS

 

Where do I collect my race number ahead of the Event?

  • Race Registration will take place at the Race Village at Gardens Rugby Club on Thursday 23 to Friday 24 November 2023 from 11h00 to 19h00 daily.

Do I need to collect my race number, or can I ask a friend to assist if I can’t make the registration times?

  • You must collect your race number in person and cannot collect on behalf of anyone.

Can I park at the Race Village at Gardens Rugby Club?

  • No parking is allowed at the Race Village at Gardens Rugby Club for the duration of race week.

 

Where should I park for Race Registration?

  • There is NO parking at the Race Village, so please park in the streets surrounding the venue. Please park responsibly and be mindful of the neighbours.

RACE DAY QUESTIONS

Where should I park on Race Day?

  • There will be a Park and Ride System in conjunction with MyCiTi.  Please park at Cape Town High School on Hatfield Road and catch a MyCiTi shuttle up to the Race Village.

  • Those running the 23km and 55km can use the MyCiTi shuttles from Cape Town High School to your start venue. Visit our website for more detailed information regarding the MyCiTi shuttle service, which will be posted closer to the Event. 

Are the routes marked? 

  • Each route is clearly marked with yellow, red and green reflective knee-height trail markings pegged into the ground. Turns are well marked with additional markings and left/right signage boards. 

Is there a risk that I can get lost on the route? 

  • The routes are well marked. If you haven’t seen a trail marking for more than 400m (up to 10 minutes depending on the terrain), we recommend that you stop and retrace your steps back to the race route where you will find the last trail marking you saw before leaving the race route. If you have the route GPX file loaded on your GPS device, then follow this route until you find the next marking. 

Is safety concern while I am running the Event? 

  • You are responsible for yourself and must be semi-self-sufficient for the duration of the Event. Private security will be present at the race village and various positions around the routes, as deemed necessary, at all times. 

Am I allowed a pacer for the Event? 

  • Runners are prohibited from using pacers during the Event. 

 

Can I receive support from my crew outside of an Aid Station? 

  • No support is permitted outside of an Aid Station. Support is permitted within a 100m radius of the Aid Stations only.

Are trekking poles allowed during the Event?

  • Yes, provided that if a runner starts with trekking poles, they must be carried for the full duration of the race. Runners may not discard their poles or choose to use them only during certain sections of the Event.

May I listen to music during the Event? 

  • The use of earphones is permitted during the Event. Playing music through any loudspeaker system is strictly prohibited during the event. 

Are the aid station cut-offs strictly enforced? 

  • Yes, you must leave the aid stations before the cut-off time to ensure continued participation in the Event. 

If I can no longer continue, can I drop from the race?

Are dogs or other pets allowed at the Event? 

  • No dogs or other pets are allowed on the RMB Ultra-trail Cape Town® course. Please keep your dogs on a lead if you bring them to the race village.

Is there a prize giving for the Event? 

  • Yes, the prize giving will be held on Sunday, 26 November 2023, at 12H00. 

 

QUALIFYING RACES QUESTIONS
 

Is RMB Ultra-trail Cape Town®

The 2023 Ultra Trail Cape Town 100 mile and 100km have been selected as qualifying races for the 2025 Western States 100. Runners who complete the 100-mile race within 45 hours or the 100km race within 21 hours will qualify to enter a lottery where the runners for Western States will be selected. The lottery will be held on December 7, 2024 and the race itself will be run on June 28-29, 2025.

Is RMB Ultra-trail Cape Town® a qualifying Event for UTMB 2023? 

  • No. To qualify for the UTMB Finals (UTMB CCC, OCC) in Chamonix, France, runners must compete in a UTMB World Series Event. For more information, visit the UTMB website.
